Transitioning Business Owners to Their Post-Ownership Career

For business owners, having an exit plan is just as important as having a personal financial plan. However, 79% of business owners have no written transition plan and 49% have done no planning at all. This is despite the fact that the same research tells us that 80% of a business owner’s net worth is locked in their business.

Do your business owner clients see you as the professional that can help them align their personal, financial, and business goals, while preparing to exit the business?

Through use of specific case studies, this session will explore exit planning as an extension of the financial planning you provide to clients and provide you with tools to help your clients maximize the value of their overall plan. We'll explore specific strategies financial professionals can implement with business owner clients and prospects to integrate themselves into the sale process, maximize business value and minimize income tax upon sale. And, finally, tips and tools to help clients prepare emotionally for their post-business owner career (retirement).

Learning Objectives
1) Learn about exit planning and how it differs from succession planning or simply selling a business; 2) Determine what tools, processes, and professionals to have on an exit planning team to help your clients maximize the value of their business and ensure alignment between their personal, financial, and business plans; 3) Understand how to incorporate exit planning into your practice for the benefit of your business-owning clients.

Session accepted by CFP Board for 1.5 hours of continuing education. Credits may also be applied toward professional recertification requirements for CAP®, CLU®, ChFC®, RICP®, CLF®, CASL®, ChSNC®, FSCP®, and WMCP®. Credits may also be applied toward recertification requirements for AAMS®, ADPA®, ABFP, APMA®, CRPC®, CRPS®, SCRIC®, FPQP®, LUTCF®, WMS®.

Morning Networking Break

The connections you make are important to us. Professional networking is an important tool for any career. When it’s done properly, professional networking can open all sorts of doors. The key is reciprocation: if you’re open to helping others, then there’s a strong chance they’ll help you right back. Embrace this philosophy and your networking could lead to, well, pretty much anything!

Critical Decisions for Retirement Planning

There are many critical decisions that individuals must make as they approach retirement, as well as ongoing decisions for the retirement years. For many people, retirement looks very different than it did for their parent's generation-people are living longer and are less likely to be able to rely on pensions to fund their retirement goals. Now, more than ever, individuals must closely examine their future financial and health care needs and determine how to best plan for these needs while protecting their financial well-being.

This session is intended to help insurance and financial professionals understand and introduce retirement planning options to clients. Considerations and concerns include the need for supplemental income, future health care needs, and the potential need for long-term care.

Learning Objectives:
By the end of this session, attendees will:
1) understand extended health care and how it affects retirees; 2) Understand asset-based LTC solutions / advantages & disadvantages; 3) Identify ways to fund asset based LTC solutions

Session accepted by CFP Board for one (1) hour of continuing education.

Myth Busters: Incorporating Guaranteed Income into Retirement Plans to Reduce Market Reliance

Today’s retirement realities make it challenging for advisors who rely on traditional strategies to deliver income security and the peace of mind it brings to clients. With the growth in 401(k) plans and the contraction of private pensions over the last 30 years, risks in retirement have slowly and almost imperceptibly transferred from institutions to individuals. Institutions peopled with actuaries and analysts are well suited to manage those risks. Individual investors may need some help. Annuities with lifetime income protections can provide an effective way to build an income floor in perpetuity for retirement. Annuities, as opposed to individual bonds, provide longevity protection by hedging the risks associated with an unknown retirement length.

Are you looking to expand your knowledge and stay ahead of the game in the financial industry? If so, it's time to learn more about annuities. With several trillion dollars of current annuities in multiple forms across thousands of life insurance companies worldwide, probably, a portion of your parents' or clients' fixed-income portfolio includes these tax-deferred accumulation vehicles. Join our experts to learn about a new kind of retirement income insurance: a Contingent Deferred Annuity built for fiduciaries. This portfolio retirement income guarantee unbundles the insurance protections from underlying investments. The result is a powerful new solution for transferring risk to an insurance company so clients can improve their spending power and confidence in retirement.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
1) How to evaluate and compare different types of annuity products to find the right solution for the right situation; 2) How annuities can be used in a financial plan to address accumulation and income objectives; 3) how the recent innovation of CDAs allows for more transparent pricing, helps RIAs Create a “personal pension” that clients can’t outlive, allows for the pooling market risk, sequence risk, and longevity risk by covering ETFs and Mutual Funds with separate insurance protections, wraps IRAs, Roth IRAs or even regular custody accounts without selling out of positions and/or taking long-term capital gains.

Session accepted by CFP Board for one (1) hour of continuing education.
